PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers women’s soccer has released its 18-match slate for the 2022 season, which begins with a pair of road games in Albuquerque at New Mexico on Aug. 18 and at UNLV on Aug. 21. The schedule features nine matches against fellow 2021 NCAA Tournament qualifiers, five in the Big Ten and four non-conference matchups.
Rutgers plays two exhibitions gearing up for the 2022 campaign – at home against Monmouth on Aug. 7 and away at Navy on Aug. 11. Monmouth also qualified for the 2021 NCAA Tournament.
Following one more road match at Providence on Aug. 25, the Scarlet Knights host their first of nine regular season home matches at Yurcak Field on Sun., Aug. 28 at 1 p.m. against Buffalo.
The Scarlet Knights will also host Temple (Sept. 1), La Salle (Sept. 8), and LSU (Sept. 11) in non-conference action at Yurcak. RU’s remaining non-conference game will be played on the road at Princeton on Sept. 4.
Rutgers opens its Big Ten Championship defense at home on Sept. 18 against Ohio State, followed by Yurcak Field conference dates against Maryland (Sept. 25), Indiana (Oct. 9), Minnesota (Oct. 13), and Wisconsin (Oct. 16). Rutgers will visit Penn State (Sept. 22), Northwestern (Sept. 29), Purdue (Oct. 2), Michigan (Oct. 20), and Michigan State (Oct. 23) for the road portion of the 2022 Big Ten schedule.
In the 2021 NCAA Tournament that saw Rutgers qualify for its second College Cup in program history, the Scarlet Knights were joined in the bracket by upcoming 2022 opponents Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, and Wisconsin from the Big Ten, and LSU, New Mexico, Princeton, and Providence from the non-conference side.
The Scarlet Knights established a historic and record-breaking season in 2021, capturing the first Big Ten Conference title for the program and for Rutgers while cruising to a 10-0 undefeated record in conference play. Led by a program-high nine All-Big Ten selections, the team advanced to the Big Ten Tournament Championship game for the third time since joining the league. In its 10th straight NCAA Tournament and first as a No. 1 seed, the team advanced to the College Cup for the second time and first time since 2015. Overall, a plethora of new program records were set by the squad, including total wins, goals, assists, points, winning streak, and more. The most home games in a single season saw a new Yurcak Field attendance record with over 5,000+ fans. The Scarlet Knights capped the year ranked No. 3, the highest rank ever for the program.
